Maudslay State Park
Finally, some nice weather!
Saturday we went up to visit my very tall friend Joe, whose boys are old enough now that they were ready to part with some of their baby things, and we were happy to receive. And since we were all the way up that way and the weather was so nice, we decided to have a walk at Maudslay State Park in Newburyport. Yen very kindly charted a path that gave us almost two hours of hiking, but avoided most of the bigger hills. He’s so thoughtful.
Just look at how happy I was to be outside!
And how well protected from the sun.
A lot of people were out with us. Just as we arrived, a fun run was finishing, but there were still a lot of people running off their winter energy. This family wasn’t letting lack of grass and leaves keep them from having a picnic. Later we spotted them flying kites.
All of the green you see here on the ground is rhododendrons. There’s a huge collection of them here. We decided to come back when they bloom. Whenever that is.
This is looking across the Merrimack River. Usually this is a good place to spot bald eagles, but we didn’t see any.
There were lots of little vernal pools, and each was filled with frogs croaking their hearts out. I guess everyone’s glad that winter is coming to a close. Not quite an end, though: it’ll be a high of 45 later this week. But it’s a nice upward trend.
