New England Aquarium
Last night we went to Corporate Night at the New England Aquarium. We hadn’t been there since the big core tank was redone, so we were excited to do this. We were a little late, so we just caught the end of the penguin movie at the IMAX, where we learned why one must never, ever sit in the front row when watching a 3D movie there. I just gave up a couple times and removed my glasses for a little break. But it was a cute movie.
After the movie, we were ushered into the aquarium, where this guy greeted us. All the kids lined up to have their photos taken, and of course I joined in.
Then I elbowed a bunch of kids out of the way so I could touch the rays. Check out the little montage Yen made for you.
He also made you an animated gif of me being awfully excited when I finally touched one.
Next we had dinner. They set up tables right next to the penguins, so we got to watch them hopping around and pooping all over the rocks while we ate. It was more fun than that last sentence makes it sound. Finally we finished up (I got to eat a cookie!), and we moved on to check out the tanks.
I like the set up of this aquarium because you’re spiraling around and around, so when you get tired of fish, you can look out over the other side of the path and see what the penguins are up to. Spoiler alert: they’re hopping and pooping.
I liked the one on the bottom, of course. I kept saying in my penguin voice, “What’s going on up there, guys? Guys? Guys?” Yen asked why penguins sound like Pippin.
We stepped out into the seal area to check out the seals, and noticed a nice sunset was happening.
I love the rock hoppers. They always look so mad!
They sent divers into the core tank so we could see the scale of the fish, which was really fun. They kept stopping to wave for Yen’s camera, but the fish swimming around confused his focus.
Here’s the very top of that tank.
We were watching the whole time hoping for a sea turtle. Finally at the top, we found him.
Look at this! I insisted that Yen take this photo.
And one last look at the little blues before we headed out. This trio was huddled together the whole time we were there. Aren’t they sweet?
