Packing Light

This is what I have packed for a week in Peru. That’s it. There is no purse or other supplement.

You can do this too.

I have three shirts. I wear one, of course. Two are light, wicking shirts (Kuhl is a good brand) that can be rinsed in your hotel sink and ready to go the next morning. The third shirt is also a light material, but it is long sleeve, dark, and looks nice enough for dinner. That’s the only time I will wear it (each night at dinner).

Wear one pair of pants and pack one. No jeans! Athleta makes pants that dry quickly and look good enough for corporate casual. Jeans absorb odors and can’t be rinsed in a pinch and ready the next morning. One bra, three pairs of socks, dark hiking boots that aren’t terrible at dinner.

Toiletries are all travel sized and go in a ziplock per what the TSA wants. Two magazines, camera, a book. I roll up a light bag made by Jenny just in case I need spillover. If I were going somewhere with potable water, my Sigg would being there too.

I wear a light hoodie and my raincoat.

My splurge item is Bose noise-canceling headphones and my iPod.

That’s it. You don’t need anything else. And this way I never have to wait in line, never have to leave something with the concierge. It’s all light enough that it isn’t terrible to carry all day.

OK, now I am off. See you in a week with pictures!
