June 27 – Aug 3, 2017
Boy is this a big one! Yen has been choosing to get some sleep at night instead of staying up to process photos. Here we go!
Isn’t she cute in this? One woman said, “You look like Dorothy!”
Linus is still setting up his wind farms in the living room. We are NOT allowed to move them without permission.
We’ve had a fairly cool summer, so we’re still getting lots of hikes in. I believe this was near Ipswich. Lots of mosquitos! At one point, Linus tripped and hit his nose on a rock. It started bleeding immediately, but the brave little guy just wiped it away and kept moving.
Don’t worry about ticks. When we get home, all clothes go into the dryer on high for 10 minutes, and we check everyone each night before bed.
Mina plays hard and then crashes. Some days she has a dance party in her room before she goes to sleep, but I have to say… she never cries or expects us to come back in and join her.
The kids were so excited that Ba Hai came to visit! Mina had never met her, and Linus hadn’t seen her in quite a long time. They adore her.
Lots of popsicles being eaten this summer. We try to make them stay in the kitchen with them. It generally doesn’t work.
Everyone got new rain boots!
We made the long trek up to the White Mountains for my company’s annual summer outing. The kids did a great job on the journey until the very end with Linus just had enough. We got out and Mina pranced in the parking lot to get some sillies out.
Then we checked into the hotel and made a fort. Of course.
Those new boots came just in time. It was a rainy weekend, but there was a farm at the hotel that we had to explore.
It’s the perfect hotel for us, really. Farm, hiking trails, pool, a wind turbine. And healthy activities for the kids. Please believe me when I say this was their idea.
No idea why Mina has her fingers in her ears. Sometimes she just does it!
Snacking in the hotel before our next adventure. By the way, you can see that Mina’s ponytails are gone now. They were so terribly cute, but it just seemed silly for a crazy little girl to have to deal with long hair. Besides. I think the sassy bob suits her personality.
All dressed up for dinner at the fancy hotel.
Exploring the hotel via the elevator.
And then the stairs! All five flights.
The next morning we found an old steam engine.
We had such big plans for Sunday, but in the end we decided to just head back. Good thing because once the kids were in the car, Linus said, “Can we just go home?”
Linus and I made a little backpack for him (don’t get too impressed – it was from a kit; all we really had to do was decorate it). He likes to wear it around the house and pretend he’s going camping.
Mina’s favorite activity lately is drawing. She’s definitely got an artistic streak, though her skills aren’t quite where she wants them yet. She draws mad swirls on her little sketch board, then flings it out for us to admire. Then she erases the whole thing and starts again.
I actually didn’t cut bangs for her. These are just the little pieces that have finally grown out from the last of her cradle cap last winter.
Linus teaching Mina to use Yen’s phone. These kids… They find features and widgets we never knew about.
We found a little mill pond about 10 minutes from our house!
Wow, sorry this is so blurry. You can see why Yen takes all the photos.
Here we are now at good old Ipswich River!
This photo too quite a lot of effort!
These kids are such good hikers! They can go up stairs, down hills, and through thickets. They rarely ask to be carried.
But sometimes just take five.
After such a long hike, we decided a treat was in order. You can see Mina demanding her turn next – those little fingers on my hand.
Of course we cram our weekends with activities, so here we are later that same day at the Battle Road in Lexington.
Linus likes to lounge around the house in his underwear just like Yen. He’s too cute. And very proud here of balancing so many animals in that dump truck! Mina wasn’t happy – the animals are hers!
Yen and Ba Noi took the kids to the Museum of Industry, which turned out to be a perfect outing for Linus’s interest in things that turn.
Co Ba brought home new outfits from Vietnam!
We got Linus a new bike for his birthday. He refuses to try it (“It will make me fall down!”), but they sure love the box it came in.
We met up with our friends to go to the zoo. Linus’s crush, Ilse, was the main attraction for him.
