Whale Watch

Mom got it into her head that we needed to go on a whale watch during their visit. I’ve never gone on one because I figured it’d be a lot of tourists squinting at what might be rocks in the distance. But I am dutiful! I bought a Groupon. And – spoiler alert – I had a great time.

Before we set out, the guide gave a little lesson while standing on a to-scale whale drawing. I liked that. I’m going to carry around a to-scale Merry drawing just to be sure people really grasp his enormity.

As our boat left Gloucester, we passed these two old salts in a rockin’ little row boat. Eat your heart out, Stephen Crane.

Behold! Mom allowed a photo.

Ah, ok. So here’s our first glimpse of the whales. These are three humpbacks.

I like the rainbow you can usually see in spray.

Yes, I even got a little video.

Their little tails look just like whale tails are supposed to.

Here’s Dad dutifully reapplying sunscreen after 80 minutes.

And here’s me lounging.

Oh, and a lighthouse. Because one must always snap photos of lighthouses.
